Section Supervisor, Legal Division
Ken Spiert began working as an Assistant
State Public Defender in 1987, representing clients in Ohio and
federal courts. After an 11-year stint in private practice, he
returned to the Ohio Public Defender Office in 2006. In 2008, he
became a section supervisor in the appellate division of the
Office, mentoring and training other attorneys in that division.
Ken has also served as a legal writing professor at Capital
University Law School since 1995.
Ken earned his Juris Doctor degree from The Ohio State
University College of Law. He also holds a Master of Theological
Studies degree from Trinity Lutheran Seminary as well as a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Bluffton University.
Ken is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus
Bar Association, the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense
Lawyers, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers,
and formerly of the Central Ohio Association of Criminal Defense
Lawyers (where he served as a Board Member).
